Great little mini in the shop for a very minor repair, but brought back some fond memories of working on, modifying, tinkering, racing and navigating these great little machines.
Want more boost?!
Cravenspeed have the kit for you, and weeu got to fit one. Required a special tool (pictured) which we now have as part of our service tools (SST’s).
Customer supplied this kit which included the shorter drive belt. The replacement reduction drive pulley has a chuck style locking mechanism allowing it to be fitted in place, however no room for conventional pullers to get the old pulley off. Quite a lot of work required to strip back and lift the engine to a height to fit the Cravenspeed pulley puller…..
Clever little tool, likely only suitable for this job unlike the various multi fit tools out there. Couldn’t do the job without it though.
Below, used the old belt to hold the new pulley in place while locating and tightening into position. An old technique for a new job and it work, not recommended on a new belt!! This is the old and now redundant belt (Phew)..
Ummmm, looks worse that is really is, bonnet up, guard liner folded away, super charger down there somewhere!!
Sleeper!!!!
So we had a visitor over the weekend in his new Toy, his new mini. but then he pulled out this awesome foldaway push bike…(his other toy). I think we need courtesy bikes!!!!
Its a surprisingly good ride….
Optional tool kit, I’m told this kit is all you need to completely strip down this bike….. so cool, just a tad smaller than the tool kits we use.
Pre-purchase check done on this, resulted in a service and detail for the new owner.
Very nice, low mileage, NZ new car…. going to the South Island but likely back to us for servicing which will be nice….
Was nice to get to the British car day, and run into a few customers, including Graham out in force in his new mini….
Noisy chain, stretched chain, noisy start up rattles.
Continuing to build on our service tool collection, just picked up this cam locking tool for N12 and N14 Bmw/mini engines and put it straight to use today.
Stretched timing chain on these models seem to have surfaced as a common concern. Todays car the chain had stretched to the point the timing had jumped resulting in a heavy reduction in power and the check engine light coming on. Others we’ve done have a heavy rattle on start up. All have exhibited problems with less than 100,000km’s on the clock.
Above and below showing the cam locking tool in place to allow the chain and gears to be removed without the cams moving/ not seen is the crankshaft is also locked in place with a pin.
Mini in for service today, nice new LiquiMoly oil going into the engine, as well and getting our complimentary 6 month breakdown service included.
